The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) ng Bataan, presided by Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia, concluded 2024 with the enactment of 30 ordinances and adoption of 535 resolutions. These legislative measures focus on addressing key issues and advancing the provincial government’s vision of fostering resilient and thriving Bataeño families.

Atty. Mark Lorenz Quezon, secretary to the SP, reported that the ordinances were designed to target various sectors, driving development and enhancing public welfare across the province.

For healthcare, significant legislations included the Bataan Healthy Schools Settings Ordinance, which promotes wellness among students, and the provincial adaptation of the “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act,” aimed at improving maternal and child health services.

Disaster preparedness was strengthened through an ordinance institutionalizing a functional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health System. Complementing this was the procurement of electric-powered vehicles to enhance emergency operations during calamities.

The SP also focused on education and youth initiatives. A comprehensive Youth Code was enacted, and the Bataan Children’s Code was updated to address current needs. To instill cultural pride, Bataan history is now integrated into the curriculum of Grades 11 and 12 senior high school students in the province.

In the area of governance and community engagement, the Bataan CSR Initiatives Ordinance was passed to encourage private sector involvement in social projects aligned with provincial development goals.

Environmental ordinances highlighted marine turtle conservation, the promotion of organic agriculture, and eco-tourism development. Meanwhile, social welfare measures included initiatives to uplift indigenous peoples and anti-discrimination protections for persons restored to liberty, ensuring inclusive development.
